Learn more about the paid, part-time opportunities open to college students

Little Manila Rising (LMR), a nonprofit organization based in South Stockton, is looking for young adults with a passion for social justice to join their Youth Advocates and Youth Organizers programs.

Originally established in 2000 to help preserve the Little Manila Historic Site, LMR has grown to offer various programs within the realms of environmental justice, historical preservation, and advocacy for the health of the South Stockton community. These programs enable high school and college-aged individuals to analyze the social issues around them, develop ways to improve such matters, and apply their solutions through community outreach and action.

The Youth Advocates program is open to local residents between the ages of 17 and 24. Participants attend weekly training sessions, participate in community events, develop professional skills, and learn how to advocate for South Stockton in greater settings. The part-time role requires a commitment of four to six hours a week from March 1, 2024, to August 2024, at a pay rate of $17 to $18 per hour. The Youth Advocate application form and more details can be found at http://tinyurl.com/2024yaapply.

The Youth Organizers program is a new program designed for individuals who have completed at least one year as a Youth Advocate. Participants receive specialized advocacy training, attend and facilitate weekly workshops, shadow attendees of LMR partner meetings, and participate in long-term advocacy projects. This part-time position also begins on March 1, 2024, but ends in September 2024. It requires a commitment of seven to eight hours a week at a pay rate of $18 to $19. For more details and the Youth Organizer application form, visit http://tinyurl.com/2024yoapply.

The deadline to apply to these programs is Thursday, February 8, 2024, at 11:59 p.m.
