2024 Welcome From The Editors
Dear Readers, Faculty, Family, and Peers,
It is our great privilege to welcome you back to The Pacifican as we begin another year of publication! Likewise, it is with tremendous joy that we share the following updates and information with you. Publishing articles for you to enjoy is what we love to do. Despite the transitionary period we found ourselves in this summer, we set our sights on rebuilding the paper into something we all can be proud of together, as Pacificans. We sincerely hope that you see the pillar of the university that The Pacifican is today.
We are committed to continuing the legacy of The Pacifican, as it extends back to 1908, but we also endeavor to modernize the paper, according to the times. In preparation for this moment, our first publication of the 2024-2025 school year, we have devoted countless hours to rebranding the paper, from amending our Constitution and hiring new staff members to forming a new executive committee and plotting out articles aplenty for your reading pleasures.
So, let us promise you this: though times at The Pacifican are changing, our attention is only more affixed. Our commitment to student-run, university-centered publication is unwavering. We are determined to produce a paper that is bigger, better, and faster than ever before.
We are excited to announce the revamping of four distinct sections: News, Opinion, Lifestyles, and Sports. Each Monday new articles will be posted to our website with each section boasting at least one weekly installment. Additionally, every Thursday our new articles will be delivered to your inbox through our weekly newsletter, which you will be able to subscribe to shortly. This year, access to The Pacifican is truly unparalleled, many thanks to our incredible staff, who you can meet here.
If this excites you, first and foremost, please keep reading! Without readers like you, our work would be futile. You are what makes the publication come alive. That said, one of our goals this year is to further foster our community, whether past, present, or future. If you would like to get involved, you can contact thepacificanuop@gmail.com. To our fellow students, we are always looking to grow our staff. For more details on how to apply to join our staff, see here. For regular updates, please follow us on social media at this link.
Lastly, as Co-Editors-In-Chief and as a student staff as a whole, we would like to thank our Advisor, Jonathan Partridge, and our Graduate Assistant Advisor, Joey Trella, for their continued, consistent support. We would not be in this position without them and look forward to seeing how else they inspire us this year.
To our readers: thank you for your patience! We hope you enjoy what is to come and thoroughly read every word. Each line of each article is our gift to you. Read on!
Sincerely,
Amaya Leiby, 2024-2025 Co-Editor-In-Chief
Kara Uchizono, 2024-2025 Co-Editor-In-Chief
