Pacific to Host Virtual Commencement for Class of 2021
Live remote commencement ceremonies will be held for the class of 2021. The ceremonies, which will be held over Zoom, differ on date based on the college: May 8th for College of the Pacific, Benerd College, Eberhardt School of Business, Conservatory of Music and School of Engineering and Computer Science; May 15th for the Thomas J. Long School of Pharmacy and the School of Health Sciences; and May 22th for the McGeorge School of Law. This was announced by University President Christopher Callahan earlier last month.
“I'm glad that they are at least doing a live ceremony. Last year they did a recorded one; I don't think that was very personal so I'm glad they're changing it to a live one,” shared graduating senior Kelli Loritsch, Applied Mathematics and Physics, ‘21.
Additionally, plans for in-person graduation ceremonies for the Classes of 2020 and 2021 this upcoming fall are in the works.
Commencement marks an important symbolic transition for many graduates, signaling the official crossing-over into the threshold of adulthood. For underrepresented students, the weight of this accomplishment is even greater.
“Commencement is a huge accomplishment for me. I’m a first generation, low income college student so it means a lot to me as well as to my family to walk the stage and earn my degree,” said Randi Holguin, Business Administration - Entrepreneurship, ‘21, and the incumbent ASuop President. “A remote commencement is a temporary placeholder for the in-person ceremony in October which I’m looking forward to more. Although I don’t think it will have nearly the same feeling as an in-person ceremony that doesn’t mean we can’t make the most of it!”
Join us in congratulating our esteemed Class of 2021!
