Led by their seniors, Pacific battled fiercely in their final home match

Graduate Ran Amar and senior Justas Trainauskas were honored before their home finale on Senior Night.

Amar and his doubles partner, Christof Schaertlin Coffey, faced early pressure from Santa Clara University’s pair. Despite showcasing strong net play and baseline control, they ultimately fell 6-3.

Trainauskas, the other honored senior, teamed up with Jonty Giesen in a tightly contested match. The duo stayed neck-and-neck with their opponents throughout, but a few key points late in the set made the difference as they fell 7-5.

Junior Tiago Silva and freshman Vraj Patel brought high energy to their doubles match, determined to show up for their senior teammates. Midway through the set, their chemistry and aggressive play clicked, earning Pacific’s lone doubles win with a 6-4 victory.

In singles, Silva continued his standout performance on Court 1. Dominating from the baseline and forcing errors from SCU’s top player, he closed out points efficiently and secured a straight-sets win, 6-4, 6-2, marking a highlight for Pacific on the day.

On Court 2, Trainauskas opened strong with aggressive play, winning the first set 6-2. Although he lost momentum in the second set, falling 3-6, he battled back in the third. The match reached a 5-5 tie before being marked unfinished, as the overall team result had already been decided.

Amar competed on Court 3, where he struggled to find footing early, dropping the first set 3-6. He rebounded with a stronger showing in the second, adjusting his strategy and pushing the set to a tiebreak, but ultimately fell 6-7 in a close contest.

Following Court 4, Patel nearly stole the first set, forcing a tiebreak, but fell 6-7. After the tight first set loss, the second set slipped away, as he fell 2-6.

Giesen, competing on Court 5, lost a close opening set 5-7, but bounced back with a commanding 6-3 win in the second. He was in full control of the third set, leading 5-2 before the match was halted. His performance stood out as he appeared on track to earn a point for Pacific.

On Court 6, Schaertlin Coffey battled through a tough three-set match. After dropping the first 4-6, he rallied to take the second 6-3 with quick point construction. Though his competitive edge remained in the third, a few key errors gave SCU the final edge as he fell 3-6.

Despite the team loss with a final score of 1-4, Pacific fought hard in every singles match. Three contests went to a deciding third set, and two matches were unfinished, with Pacific in strong positions. Trainauskas and Giesen showed excellent resilience and were in strong positions to add to the team score.

The Tigers will next compete in the West Coast Conference Tournament beginning April 24.
