Track and Field Stays Ahead of the Pack

Pacific’s Women’s Track and Field Program competed in the Mike Fanelli Track Classic.


The Pacific Women’s Track and Field team traveled to Cox Stadium at San Francisco State University this past weekend to compete in the annual Mike Fanelli Track Classic. While the event kicked off on Thursday, April 3, the Tigers did not compete until the following day.

The team debuted its first competitors during the Women’s 1500 Meter Finals on Friday afternoon. In Section 9 of the timed finals, junior Emily Wernli placed seventh, with a time of 4:45.32. In Section 11, senior Sophia Livingston surged ahead of the pack to claim first place with a time of 4:53.46, finishing 2.29 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Later in Section 15, senior Elisabeth Garner also secured first place, finishing in 5:07.48, while sophomore Emma Kaufman, who ran in the same heat, placed eighth.

Saturday featured a full slate of Tigers competing across multiple events. Four athletes raced in the Women’s 1 Mile. In Section 2, Wernli competed but did not receive a recorded time. In Section 3, sophomore Alexa Myers finished tenth with a time of 6:02.44. In Section 4, junior Briteny Goriye claimed first place with a time of 6:12.42, while junior Beatriz Diaz followed in ninth place at 6:24.44.

Later that day, Livingston returned to the track to compete in the Women’s 800 Meter Dash, taking first place and setting a personal record with a time of 2:23.05. In the Women’s 2 Mile, graduate student Anahi Avila Perez placed fifth with a time of 12:13.77.

Pacific also competed in the Women’s Distance Medley Relay (DMR), an event made up of four runners covering 1200m, 400m, 800m, and 1600m in that order. The quartet consisted of Kaufman (1200m), senior Dalee Higgins (400m), Livingston (800m), and Wernli (1600m). The team placed ninth in the Section 1 timed finals as Pacific’s only entry in the DMR event.

In sprint events, sophomore Alondra Lopez ran in the Women’s 400 Meter, finishing fourth in Section 5 with a time of 1:06.59, earning a personal time. In the Women’s 100 Meter Dash, graduate student Talia Johnson placed eighth in Section 4 with a time of 13.26, narrowly missing her personal best of 13.17.

Junior Serena Yee was the sole Pacific competitor in field events on Saturday. She placed eighth in Flight 1 of the Women’s Triple Jump, recording a seed of 10.51 meters. Later in the day, she returned for the Women’s High Jump, placing fourth in Flight 1 with a seed of 1.50 meters, matching her own school record of 4'11”, previously set at University of California, Berkeley earlier this season.
