Orange and Black Games Ignite Tiger Pride
A new chapter of bringing together Pacific student-athletes to support their athletic community
The Pacific Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (PSAAC) created the Orange and Black games as a way of bringing students at the University of the Pacific together to support our athletes during their games. The theme of these games is to wear orange, black, or both colors, so supporters in the stands are in the same colors.
There have already been Orange and Black games so far this year. The first one of the year was the Men's Golf Pacific Invite Tournament on October 14th through October 16th. The next game was for Men’s Water Polo, on October 17th, which was the men’s first home game, and it was a great way to fill the stands and support the men’s team through a tough game against Princeton. Women’s Soccer had their game on October 23rd against San Diego, which was also their Senior night. The stands were full of students cheering and supporting our women's team. Men’s Soccer had their game on the night of October 26th against Santa Clara, once again with the stands full of fellow tigers. Women’s Volleyball had their Orange and Black game on November 2nd against San Francisco. They fought hard through 5 sets, but unfortunately lost to the Dons 3-2. The Women’s Cross Country Orange and Black meet was on the morning of November 2nd. They hosted the West Coast Conference Championship and finished in 11th place. On November 4th, our Men’s Basketball team started their season strong with their Orange and Black game against Jessup. They won their first home game of the season with an arena full of student-athletes cheering them on.
Even though there have already been many of the PSAAC’s Orange and Black games this fall, there are still a couple left for our fall/winter sports. The Men’s Swim team will have their Orange and Black meet on January 26th against the Simon Fraser Red Leafs. It will be their last home meet, as well as their senior meet, which they are expected to win. To end off the fall/winter sports, Women’s Basketball will have their game on February 27th against the Gonzaga Bulldogs. Start off the spring semester with attendance at these games to support our Pacific athletes!
The attendance of supporters can set the tone for athletic events for all athletes. High-attendance games can give the encouragement athletes need to keep their energy high until the last second of a game or meet. The best sporting events are when the stands are full of excited fans cheering on their team to win. There are also ways to win prizes in attendance at the games. The Men’s Basketball program gives out T-shirts and a free gift card to a select person in the stands. Men’s Water Polo gives out free milkshakes/beer after the games they win. Go Tigers!
