Welcome Staff Writer Amaya Leiby

Amaya Leiby, 26’ (Political Science and Philosophy) is a sophomore transfer student. After spending her freshman year at Arizona State, she is relishing in the small, close-knit feel of Pacific’s campus, and the far cooler weather. Leiby is double majoring in political science, with a concentration in criminal justice, and philosophy. She is also minoring in pre-law, with the goal of attending law school and working as a human rights attorney. Over this past summer, Leiby worked as the Executive Assistant Intern at the Public Defender of Marion County’s office, which further inspired her legal aspirations.

Outside of the classroom, Leiby is a member of the women’s water polo team, spending hours a week in the pool. She’s proud to be a student-athlete, a goal of her’s for many years. Leiby is also a member of Pacific’s Legal Advantage Program, formerly known as Legal Scholars program. She is looking forward to participating in field trips and other events throughout the semester. On the side, Leiby also does social media work for various organizations, such as The Legal Gist and the Voice in Sport Foundation. This is Leiby’s first year at The Pacifican, but she is thankful to be on the team and is looking to make an immediate impact.

Few may know, but Leiby had never attended a day of public school before her freshman year of college, as she was homeschooled throughout middle school and high school. Hailing from Gresham, Oregon she enjoys spending time on the water, boating and swimming, but is scared of the ocean. Leiby enjoys reading in her free time, either historical fiction or Colleen Hoover. And you will never catch her without coffee in hand and is thankful to be so close to an in-n-out!
